Like many places in West Yorkshire, most notably Bradford, Huddersfield grew from its thriving textiles industry and its fine woollen worsteds are still being sent to customers all over the world. Today, this renown is complemented by Huddersfield’s boom in media and creative industries. Huddersfield Art Gallery has an excellent permanent collection of British art, including works by Francis Bacon and Henry Moore, as well as a constantly changing exhibition space featuring contemporary art by national and regional artists. On the outskirts of Huddersfield you will find the Tolson Museum. The collections cover local history, archaeology, natural history and transport, including Britain’s rarest car, the three wheel ‘LSD’, built in Huddersfield after the First World War.
